Today, Dawn’s staff reporter claims that the Pakistan government’s move to privately offer to restore the positions of certain members of the pre-emergency high court judiciary appears to be succeeding. This comes just one day after a report in Dawn that most judges approached had refused to consider the possibility of their reinstatement without the matter of the Supreme Court and Chief Justice being dealt with. There is now apparently a group of judges who are “heartbroken” with the new government’s failure to deliver on the restoration process. It is this group that is in favor of considering re-appointment and is now engaged in a debate with colleagues who are strongly opposed to the idea.
